Yesterday’s shirt. Sunglasses before noon. An espresso going cold on the table. The unmistakable feeling that they have already been somewhere you wish you had been.

Something of the night is still there. Bitter orange on the skin. Black tea. Dry orris. Cedar. A trace of tobacco caught in cotton. Cool metal from a watch clasp, keys, a bracelet.

Nothing quite clean. Nothing quite undone.

Just that rare hour when last night is still lingering and morning has begun to feel like a very good idea.
