By afternoon, the house had given in to summer. The windows stayed open. Curtains moved in the heat. Sunlight crossed the floors and the rooms carried the warmth of whatever was growing outside.
Even after sunset, the heat remained in the walls.
The Windows Stayed Open is a Study of a house in the middle of summer, when the line between inside and outside almost disappears. Sun warmed wood, dry greenery, warm air, and something cooler moving underneath it all.
